***** Wow, what an adventure! Review by Rox Burkey

Author Yvette M. Calleiro totally delivers in The One Enlightened, book 2 of the series, Chronicles of the Diasodz. This story picks up where Sofia, Ar’ch, and Angel leave Rafe behind and travel to Diasodz via the portal. A great deal was revealed with At’ch and Angel explain the trip to Diasodz to Nolan and Valerie

“He told them about meeting Angel at Main Street, where the portal had been set up, only to find Angel surrounded by deminions. He described how the portal had been destroyed and how a human friend of Sofia’s had been injured. He left out the fact that Angel’s icy dagger had injured her.

“We lost time because we stopped to save the human girl,” he explained.

Angel tried to justify their actions. “She was Sofia’s best friend. We had to try to save her.”

“Of course, you did. And were you able to save the girl?” his mother asked.

Angel’s eyes lit up for the first time since returning. “Yes, Mother. It was an incredible feeling. Ar’ch healed her lungs, and I healed her wound. Our Goddess-given gifts came to us so naturally.”

His parents smiled with pride. “You did the right thing. Our purpose is to save and protect, not harm,” his father replied.”

Sofia suffers the loss of her first love and her mom. Her newly found brother Angel forge a bond as they train and learn the history of Diasodz from Nolan, who takes on the role of her father. She becomes both physically and emotionally more assertive as she grows to accept her role as the savior, even if not everyone believes she is the one.

Sofia grows and evolves as a maturing woman, which the author paces perfectly. Sofia’s new world will be turned upside down as mysteries are exposed, beliefs are questioned, and relationships are left in tatters. Is Sofia mature enough now to deal with the challenges?

I enjoyed book 1, but with book 2, I found myself more immersed in the story and the new world the Author Calleiro creates almost effortlessly. The surprises and journey of the characters within the story make for an exciting adventure that is nearly impossible to put down before completing. You could easily skip book 1 and be satisfied with this one, but I wouldn’t if I were you. For those who are fond of fantasy and young romance in a magical world, this is a young adult series worth reading.
