*****Hold Onto Your Seat!                        Review by Rox Burkey

Author CW Hawes is at it again with his fabulous character Justinia Wright, investigator par excellence.  Tina, as she is known to friends, with brother Harry and his wife Bea are challenged to free Gavin Gamble from prison.

Tina is a six-foot, cigar-smoking, and classical musician with expensive taste and lifestyle. With her background in art forgery, ex-CIA, and connections in every meaningful place is up to find the real killer of James Bowen. An attractive offer of $750K to succeed is only one reason Justinia takes on the case.

CW Hawes writes with an effortless style that keeps the pages moving. His character and plot development continuously improve with each book in this series. He grabs you early with enticements, then you willingly hitch a ride to find out all the twists and turns of this mystery.

“A mother picking up her newborn for the first time would not have been as gentle as Tina was in removing the protective styrofoam and extracting the four bottles out of the box. And to my knowledge, Tina’s never produced a newborn.

When she was done, there was $45,600 in rare vintage madeira sitting on her desk. All from the vaunted 1808 vintage. Three bottles of Terrantez and one of Sercial.

“Are you actually going to drink that stuff?”

She didn’t take her eyes off the bottles.

“Maybe. Some day when there’s something special to celebrate.”

I shook my head. She just spent over forty-five thousand bucks on four bottles of wine that she probably won’t ever drink.”

Author Hawes has mastered prose to activate the senses, place reader interest into overdrive, and make his fans beg for more.  The relationship between characters is unfalteringly consistent. Tina needs to find the who, but the more challenging aspect is proving it so justice can be effectively served. This mystery will keep you on the edge of your seat, with no guaranteed outcome!

I totally recommend this cozy mystery that combines easy reading in a Who Dun It like the game of Clue. Undoubtedly, CW Hawes story style, with a larger-than-life Investigator Justinia Wright, is like Rex Stout, with Nero Wolf. Readable and enjoyable more than once! I’m guilty; I read this twice as it was that good.
