Edge of Your Seat Suspense!

Review by Rox Burkey

Before this short story, I was only familiar with the author’s poetry which is excellent. Now I can’t wait to read more of her work. Author D.L. Finn knows how to keep a reader’s attention focused. Yikes! This page turning suspense doesn’t let up until the end. As you read that last sentence you hope it’s over, but you’ll still want more!

Cass and Will are characters I simply wanted to hug for being brave. I really loved how they were developed as a couple, parents, and victims. Ms. Finn is brilliant at making each word count. The stage was set immediately on the united front of this couple of 40 plus years.

“    There wasn’t enough evidence to charge us, but the stigma of being a suspect in the murder of my sister clung to us like the potent spray of a skunk. It made sure of that.

My husband and I finally had the conversation we’d been avoiding.

“We can’t live like this,” Will started.

“I know,” I said quietly, “but we’ve worked all our lives to get here.”

“Yes, we have, Cass. We’ve been lucky up to this point, but our luck ran out after the murder. We need to consider selling the house and leaving.” Will was unable to look at me.

“I love our house. Our things. Our life here…    ”

Every portion of this story is vividly painted by the words. The guilt and subsequent evil of Ronald, Cass’s brother-in-law, was elusive to law enforcement. This paranormal story is painted with the brush of reality that is hard to ignore.

This story is for those who like paranormal, supernatural, and killer suspense all rolled into a dynamite short story.

Thank you, Rox for the review and post 🙂 I’m so happy you enjoyed Cass and Will’s story. Yay! It was my slight nod to Alfred Hitchcock with some paranormal thrown in the mix. Xo
