**** Unexpected Love Story                                      Review by Rox Burkey

Author Regina Morris creates a story of how stars align suddenly for two people.  Joy was a nurse and sole caretaker for a man for three years. Jake comes to the cabin in the woods to remove his father’s personal belongings and sell the property.

Brownie, Jake’s dog, is the link between two characters who never expected to cross paths. Author Morris does an excellent job of developing the characters within the construct of a short story. These two strangers are forced to stay together longer than expected when a winter storm forces Joy to stay put, at least overnight.

I enjoyed the different perspectives on the man they both knew, but in vastly different ways. This next passage was when I realized Joy’s angst.

Regardless, it now looked as if Jake were willing to throw the cabin—and everything it meant—out, as well.

Like most men, Jake didn’t appreciate what he had. Evidently, there was a wife and a kid in the mix, with plenty of nieces and nephews from his sisters. According to Henry, Jake worked all the time and was never at home.

Yeah, it must be a big pain in the ass to visit people who loved you. People who were a part of you, a part of your past, a part of your future.

Joy turned from the window and focused on her room. She didn’t have another place to go, but she figured a hotel in town for a night or two would work. A picture of her father rested on the nightstand. She wrapped it carefully in a small towel and tucked it into her purse. It was the first of many things she needed to pack.”

I recommend this sweet read for those who like romance and short stories in a tidy little package. I look forward to other works by Regina Morris.
