An Interesting Conundrum

Author Jan Sikes creates a story of how an older brother, Quentin, feels duty-bound to protect his younger brother, Rowdy. The character development describes the differences succinctly. Quentin is hardworking, and Rowdy is a spoiled child with an indulging mother. The portrayal of Casper as a friend to Quentin, his employer, is questionable.
Quentin has helped Rowdy beat his escalating scrapes over the years. Their mother is a force to be reckoned with the description Ms. Sikes provides.
“ She pulled herself up as tall as she could, which brought her to just under Quentin’s armpit. “Rowdy can’t go to prison. It’s up to you to see that he don’t.”
“And why is that up to me, Ma?” As hard as he tried to keep it at bay, anger crept into his voice.
“Am I supposed to give up everything I’ve worked my ass off to build so that my little brother can go on being a deadbeat drunk doper?”
Barbara Marks stomped her foot, drew back her handbag, and slammed it into Quentin’s chest with as much force as she could muster. “Don’t you talk about my son that way. I won’t tolerate it.” “
Author Jan Sikes paints the consequence of a painful family dynamic. A good short story for people who enjoy a fiction with a challenging hypothesis.
About the Author
Jan Sikes is an award-winning Texas author who has been called a wordsmith by her peers. She openly admits that she never set out in life to be an author. But she had a story to tell. Not just any story, but a true story that rivals any fiction creation. You simply can’t make this stuff up. It all happened.
She chose to create fictitious characters to tell the story through, and they bring the intricately woven tale to life in an entertaining way.
