Book 1 of the Detours in Time series

Author Pamela Schloesser Canepa creates the fun world of time travel that begins in 2047. Doctor Milton Braddock, Milt, and Tabitha Hansen, Pinky embark to the future in Envo to see the state of the United States. This unlikely pair, the professor and Tabitha, venture into time periods without knowing how society reached the current state. They visit different museums and archives to learn about major events.
The 2019 political atmosphere is highlighted as a part of the division of society of 2047. The travelers’ prime directive of disturbing as little as possible regardless of how tempting sets up their easy banter as well as propels the relationship forward. The characters are distinctive and masterfully developed through the course of the story.
The inhabitants of 2047 have different technologies available. Each of these enablement’s make delightful speculation as well as fun storytelling. The discussion of body modification is a hoot and highlights our main characters light exchanges.
“You would have thought she asked the tour guide which way was up. “Tattoo artists are fully prepared to modify the nose. The whiskers, through canine serum.” Pinky decided not to ask any more questions. This new world was different. People loved animals, and people loved body modification. Gone were the days of the lone tattoo on your arm. She was sporting one on her ankle, anyway. But still. This seemed so drastic. She shook her head and looked over at Milt, flexing his bicep tattoo. She could have smacked him lightly. No one wanted to see the result of one of his drunken college nights, a cheesy mermaid. She choked back a laugh. Speaking of hybrids….”
I enjoyed the glimpse into the difference in language, clothing, and human interactions in these times. The coolest thing about time travel stories is the ability for an author to speculate on people and places. Author Canepa does a great job with speculative details in the surprising turns of the story. I do recommend this story for those who like fun, easy reads filled with way to pique your imagination. I look forward to the next book in this series. Enjoy this one today.
About the Author
By day, Pamela teaches Middle School English. By night, she travels to other worlds and times, placing herself in the persona of her characters, all while sitting in her favorite chair. She has enjoyed writing for various reasons ever since childhood, when she realized writing and making up stories would provide entertainment for long trips and keep her company. Her tendency toward fantastic stories was reflected in tales of discovering modern day dinosaurs and talking horses that would give her advice. The writing of poetry provided an outlet for private thoughts and emotions for years until she decided to self-publish fiction in 2016. Pamela’s genres include science fiction, paranormal fiction, and poetry of all types. The Made for Me series is Pamela’s first published fiction series. She released her first full-length novel, Detours in Time, in the summer of 2017 and the sequel in 2018. Pamela currently juggles her day job with writing further novels in the Detours in Time world while cooking up more ideas for the character of Norrie from her Made for Me series.
