The Sumatra Encounter
*****Bloodcurdling Adventure ***** Performance *****Story *****Overall Review by Rox Burkey
Gayne Young delivers a heart-pounding, action-packed adventure inside the Sumatra rainforest. The discoveries by a renowned archeologist in the 1930s include far more than old bones and pottery, with terrifying results delivered rapid-fire. Each word in this horrifying story is selected to describe the environment, characters, and animals completely without waste. There is no doubt that an eight-foot beast, with rust-colored fur, over eight hundred pounds with three-inch yellow fangs, exhaling putrid breath shouldn’t be provoked.
Jack Taylor, professional tiger hunter, is a tough, unforgiving, no-nonsense man. He deals with gang leaders, thieves, and wild animals in the same manner—to win. The untamed region of Sumatra calls part-time hunters, scientists, and explorers to visit, which cultivates greed and power struggles. Each character has an agenda with interactions driving superb storytelling through unexpected threads entwined to keep readers and listeners engaged.
Kevin Perkins delivers a flawless narration with distinctive voices for each of the deliciously complex characters who venture into the perilous unknown, armed and dangerous. Listeners are taken on a wild, non-stop adventure with various deadly encounters vividly described in grisly, primeval terms. The pace, tone, and perfect pauses engross readers in the story alongside the characters.
Fans of unexpected action and adventure wishing for an unexpected thrill will stay on the edge of their seat with the revelations found inside Bigfoot: The Sumatra Encounter. Are Gigantopithecus black still hiding and thriving in Indonesia? I highly recommend listening or reading to make your own decision.
