***** New friends, victims, and more… ||| review by Rox Burkey

April Nunn Coker spotlights a pastime that many people enjoy annually—glamping. In Just Dying to Glamp, Mamie West is enamored with glamorous camping, the foundation of the term, when she purchases a vintage camper. She sees revitalizing the camper as a way to find a new way to live after losing her husband the prior year. Her loving, grown children support her plans to travel with Babs, her Boston Terrier, and meet people.

Mamie, a former teacher, knows how to research and joins a group of like-minded glampers. Her first foray trailering, the refurbished camper, takes her to the shores of Burnet Reservoir, adjacent to Magnolia Bluff. Soon after her arrival and set up in her spot at Hayden’s Resort, one guest is shot, and another guest is found dead in the lake. Curious, Mamie uncovers clues, including a book by a favorite author, to aid the investigation in identifying the culprit. Her efforts to bring a murderer to justice could be her undoing, even with police protection.

The realistic character development of Mamie is similar to the metamorphosis of a butterfly with marvelous wings to fly to new heights. The superb interaction of the diverse characters is complemented by sense descriptions that root readers into every scene. Ms. Coker brings her brand of cozy mystery into the Magnolia Bluff Crime Chronicles with excellent tension from page one to the unexpected but excellent end.

Fans of the Magnolia Bluff Crime Chronicles will love the latest addition to the series, book 25, Just Dying to Glamp. First-time readers will want to discover all the mysteries and murders in this small town in the Texas Hill Country. I highly recommend you add it to your summer reading list or anytime you want to curl up with a surprising whodunit.

About the Author

April Nunn Coker began writing at the age of 10, but it was many years until she saw her dream of having a book published come true. She spent 30 years in public schools as a teacher and administrator while raising her two children along with her husband and cheerleader Jimmy, whom she recently lost to Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

Her first book, a tongue-in-cheek guide to saving money at Christmas, was written in response to an especially hectic holiday season where she exhausted herself spending and doing way too much. Her next three books, inspired by her husband’s life as a zookeeper, are romantic suspense novels centered around the lives of several zookeepers who find themselves in danger from animals and people. Soon to be released is a companion children’s book based upon one of the characters in the novels.

April is also a freelance writer who has written articles for professional education journals, teacher magazines, and a society magazine. This busy lady resides in East Texas with her Boston terrier Stella and spends her time writing, glamping, traveling, tutoring, thrift shopping, and spending time with her three grandchildren.
